Free spins: free to spin, not free to withdraw
By Ilze Krūmiņa · updated October 2026
Free spins are the favourite bonus of slot players: the reels turn on the operator's money and the winnings land in your account. What matters is the form in which they land, because that decides whether and when you can withdraw them. Adverts rarely show that part.
Exact percentages, wagering multipliers and deadlines are set by the operator's bonus terms. They change, so read the current version before you activate anything. Amounts in examples are in your account currency.
Spin value decides everything
"200 free spins" sounds big, but the value of each spin matters more. At 0.10 per spin, 200 spins equal 20 in bets; at 0.25, they equal 50. The value is usually fixed and stated in the offer. When comparing offers, multiply the number of spins by their value instead of looking at the count alone.
Where the winnings go
| Variant | What it means for withdrawal |
|---|---|
| Winnings as real money | Withdrawable after verification — rarer and more valuable |
| Winnings as bonus money | Must be wagered before they can be withdrawn |
| Winnings with a cap | Only up to a set amount can be withdrawn |
Most often the winnings become bonus money with wagering — see Wagering.
Tied to specific games
Free spins are usually attached to one slot or a short list. They cannot be moved to another game and the stake cannot be changed. If you do not enjoy the chosen slot, the spins turn into a chore. Before using them, read that slot's paytable — our game pages in Games show how.
Deadlines, sometimes daily
Free spins often have two deadlines: one to activate them and one to wager the winnings. Some packages release spins in daily batches. Miss a day and that batch may expire. If you do not plan to play every day, a daily-batch package may not suit you.
Checklist after the spins
- See whether the winnings sit in the real or the bonus balance.
- If bonus, track the remaining wagering and the maximum bet.
- Before withdrawing, make sure no active bonus will void the winnings.
- If the payout stalls, see Withdrawal status.
Are they worth it?
If you want to try a new slot without risk — yes. If you are counting on a payout, do the honest maths: spin value, form of winnings, wagering. The real value is often a few units, not the headline number. Free spins often come as part of a welcome package or a reload offer, so read those terms together.
