Sports betting: from odds to a withdrawal
By Ilze Krūmiņa · updated October 2026
If a platform has a sportsbook, it works differently from casino games. The outcome is decided on the field rather than by a random generator, and the value of a bet depends on the odds. This section covers the basics and how betting connects to the cashier: when bets are settled, why open bets lock money and what sports bonus terms mean. Which sports and markets your account offers is shown on the operator's site.
Odds are probability plus a margin
Decimal odds are easy to turn into probability: one divided by the odds. Odds of 2.50 mean 40%; 1.25 mean 80%. Add up the probabilities of all outcomes in a market and you get more than 100% — the excess is the bookmaker's margin. Example: both sides of a match are priced at 1.88. That is 53.2% + 53.2% = 106.4%, so the margin is about 6%. The lower the margin, the more of each stake stays with you in the long run.

Open bets and withdrawals
Until a bet is settled, the money in it cannot be withdrawn. If your balance looks lower than expected, check for open bets. An accumulator is settled only after its last event, so money can sit there for days. A voided bet (for example when an event does not take place) usually returns to your balance, but if it was part of bonus wagering it may not count.
Sports bonuses
Sports bonuses have their own conditions: minimum odds for a bet to count towards wagering, accumulator restrictions and a deadline. Illustrative example: with minimum odds of 1.50, a bet at 1.30 does not count at all. Before activating, read Bonus terms and Wagering.
The illusion of control
Sports betting feels controllable: you know the teams, follow the news, "read" the game. But bookmakers use the same information and build in their margin. So budgeting matters as much as in the casino: size each bet as a share of your monthly entertainment money, not by how confident you feel. If you bet to win back a previous loss, stop and see Responsible gambling.
What we do not do
We do not give tips and do not claim what margin any particular platform uses. Our aim is that you can calculate margins yourself, understand settlement rules and plan your money — then any line becomes readable.
